Public Art at Accelerator Park

Art Contact was approached by Hale Architects on behalf of Canmoor Development to consult on and manage a public art project at Accelerator Park – Dale Manor Business Park in Sawston, South Cambridgeshire. The project required the sourcing of multiple artists and makers across several potential sites, narrowing the options to a single artist and location for full production and installation. This process was carried out in close collaboration with Greater Cambridge Planning.

Our brief was to identify the right artist capable of translating the public art vision into a site-specific work that would resonate with the community, complement the location, and meet planning requirements.

Art Contact wrote a detailed artist brief, prepared a project timeline, and facilitated Teams meetings with all stakeholders throughout the process. We also drafted and managed the necessary contracts for both the selected artist and the developer, ensuring smooth communication and clear responsibilities.

Following a thorough consultation and selection process, Charley Peters, in collaboration with Creative Return Ltd, was commissioned to create ‘Orbit Fusion’, a site-specific public artwork designed to engage visitors and enhance the visual identity of the park.

Art Contact then continued to oversee the design, production and installation of the artwork including the artists involvement with the YES (Youth Engagement Scheme) programme to engage with children from the local school and to include their ideas in the final artwork.

The project exemplifies Art Contact’s expertise in managing complex public art commissions, bridging creative vision, stakeholder needs, and practical delivery to achieve a lasting and meaningful impact in the built environment.
