Wood, Chris
My work explores the physics of light, creating optically kinetic works, which transform light and play with visual repositioning through the use of reflective surfaces. New developments in glass technology have enabled me to embed natural materials, such as flowers into glass. Daisies are transformed in colour and hover and dance in lawns whilst the surrounding grass is painted with vibrant coloured light.
An interest in light whilst studying furniture design, led me to explore the physical and visual qualities of glass at the Royal College of Art. There I worked on architectural scale projects dealing with light and space.
I live and work in Cambridgeshire where I produce work of an experimental nature for gallery exhibition; this approach informs the work I create to commission for the public and private sector. I exhibit regularly throughout the UK, Europe, Canada and the United States. I have also been commissioned by large organisations such as Saudi Aramco, Deloitte & Touche, Barclays Bank, Wellcome Trust, Premier Travel and a number of large UK hospitals
In 2005 I was selected for the Arts Council’s Escalator Scheme. This scheme identified eleven of the most promising artist in the Eastern region, to support and develop their practice over a two year period.
