Jones, Daniel

Dan studied sculpture at Loughborough University and left with a first class honours degree. He returned to his home village of Barnburgh in 2000 and has established an international sculpture career. Working mainly in stone he has created work in Dubai, South Korea, Cyprus and across the UK.

Dan creates work using inspiration from daily drawings of the landscape to small details of life, be they a single seed head or brief coming together of the communities; each reflect an aspect of place and environment.

Usually making works by carving stone, Dan incorporates new techniques and materials to best represent his sense of different times: spring is a plant bud that grows from a fertile soil, ready to burst into life; summer hangs in the air, bright and vital, reminding us of dandelion heads and insects in the warm outdoors; autumn returns to the ground, carved stone like ploughed fields with seeds, made from wood, reflecting the colours of the season; finally the hard ground and ice of winter is beautifully captured in stone and cast glass.

Dan is currently involved in regeneration schemes across the UK, working alongside landscape architects and engineers to create creative public environments.
