Bickmore, Alison
I have been exhibiting prints and paintings at galleries across the UK and Europe, winning the Curwen prize for print at the Originals Contemporary Print Show Mall Gallery in 2006.
In 2008 I gained a sponsorship award from the Japanese embassy and will also be exhibiting in Japan and Korea.
Photography and film are a starting point for my practice and I use these resources to influence the concepts in the work. Drawing and printmaking all form part of the process, that as a result lead into the painting, which are constructed through layers of paint with fine papers and fabrics. Distinctive methods that I have devised through various systems are a major feature of my work and occur through the construction of a particular procedure that has been engineered in a certain way and carries a unique working methodology.
The work I have developed concerns the disappearance and replacement of structures from memory in the form of landscapes; through lost and found space. The evidence or trace of something stands as a reminder of the environments vulnerabilities and are recurrent within the paintings and prints.
