Allen, Simon
The artist, Simon Allen, was born in Bristol in 1967. He studied Fine Art at Falmouth school of Art, and then spent several years working in London, where he learned the art of water gilding. He now lives in West Cornwall near the sea, on the edge of a rugged moor, where he works in a converted barn studio.
Simon Allen's gilded wall sculptures are carved in wood and hang as if levitating from the wall. These abstract works are firmly rooted in, and inspired by nature and the landscape.
The inspiration of the sea, water and its movement, can be clearly seen in much of his work. His affinity with the sea also relates to his past, in which he has enjoyed much time sailing, including a transatlantic passage.
